Daily Morning Watch - 6 Aug 2012


SINGAPORE
CapitaLand Ltd (CAPL) announced the set-up of a S$5B Euro Medium Term Note Programme. Separately the Co's serviced residence unit The Ascott Limited said it has agreed to buy The Cavendish London hotel in the St James's area of Mayfair for £159M.

Singapore Airlines (SIA)'s regional unit Silk Air said it will make an order of $4.9B at list prices to buy 54 Boeing jets, including 23 737-800s and 31 737-MAX-8s, with an option for another 14.

Fraser & Neave Ltd (FNN) announced it has accepted Heineken's S$5.3B (S$50 per share) offer to acquire the Co's interest in Asia Pacific Breweries Ltd (APB). The Co added: "While all of us at F&N maintain a strong emotional attachment to APB and the Tiger beer brand, this offer price of S$50 represents an attractive premium and the sale of APB allows us to immediately unlock substantial value in the Beer business." In other news, Thai Beverage Pcl said it has secured S$2.8B of bridge loans from HSBC, Standard Chartered and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp to fund its purchase of a 22% stake in the Co.

Sembcorp Industries (SCI) unveiled 1H net income up 9.7% YoY to S$367M on turnover of S$5.1B, up 21.4%. Looking ahead the Co said: "Our Utilities business is expected to deliver a better performance in FY2012 compared to last year despite our Singapore cogeneration plant's planned major maintenance. (...) Our Marine business has a current net orderbook of S$6.6B with completion and deliveries stretching till 2Q2015. This includes S$3.1B in contract orders secured since the start of 2012. Amid the economic uncertainty and volatile global market conditions, the fundamentals for offshore oil and gas activities remain intact."

US indices jumped on Friday boosted by diversified financials and banks sectors. On the US economic data front, nonfarm payrolls expanded by 163,000 (100K expected) in July while unemployment rate rose to 8.3% from 8.2% in June. Finally, ISM non-manufacturing index increased to 52.6 (52.1 expected) in July from 52.1 the previous month. Looking at some major US corporate releases, LinkedIn (LNKD +16.04% to $108.51) unveiled 2Q adjusted EPS up 60.0% YoY to $0.16 and adjusted EBITDA up 91.2% to $50M on revenue of $228M, up 88.5%. In other news, Kraft Foods (KFT +4.03% to $40.51) reported 2Q operating EPS up 9.7% YoY to $0.68 on revenue of $13.3B, down 4.3% (+3.4% organic growth). Procter & Gamble (PG +3.13% to $65.5): unveiled 4Q net income up 45% to $3.63B; or $1.24 a share. Ex-items, EPS was $0.82 vs $0.77 expected. Separately, AIG (AIG +1.62% to $31.34) posted 2Q adjusted EPS of $1.06 vs $0.68 a year earlier.

In Europe, euro zone PMI composite was 46.5 in July in final estimation vs 46.4 in prior one. PMI services was 47.9 vs 47.6 in first estimation. Retail sales gained 0.1% in June vs +0.8% in May. They were expected to be down 0.1%. Germany PMI services was 50.3 in July in final estimation vs 49.7 in prior one. UK PMI services decreased to 51 in July vs 51.3 in June and 51.6 expected. Regarding the stocks, Allianz and Axa gained ground as 2Q results beat estimates. This morning, the Nikkei225 index opened higher, and is now above both its ST & MT MAs.


CHINA - HK
China 's central bank said in its website that it will intensify its monetary policy fine-tuning in 2H2012.

CNOOC Ltd (883) said it has agreed with China United Coalbed Methane Corp, which is 50% owned by the Co's parent group, on the exploration, development, production and sale of coalbed methane and related products within the contract areas. Total expenses of the project are estimated at 9.9B yuan.

Zijin Mining (2899) announced that it has obtained over 50% of shares in Australia 's Norton Gold Fields Ltd as a result of acceptances of its takeover offer.

Sands China (1928)'s parent group Las Vegas Sands Corp is said to be under investigation by US authorities in relation to alleged money laundering reported the WSJ.

China Southern Airlines (1055) said its 51%-owned Xiamen Airlines has ordered 40 Boeing-737 series aircraft at an aggregate catalogue price of $3.4B.

Brilliance China Automotive (1114) announced the formation of a JV with Finconsum, a subsidiary of CaixaBank, and Credit Gain, a subsidiary of Bank of East Asia (23) to engage in auto financing business in China .

Shenzhen Investment Ltd (604) said officers of Hong Kong 's Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) attended its principal office August 1 for an investigation on suspected bribery of individuals related to the Co's share option scheme from 2002 to 2009. The Co added: "The Co also understands that such investigation does not involve any directors of the present Board and is not against the Co. "

Shanxi Xishan Coal & Electricity Power (000983) posted 1H net income down 11.2% YoY to 1.7B yuan on turnover of 15.7B yuan, up 4.0%.

China Vanke (000002), Yantai Changyu Pioneer Wine Co (000869), Taiyuan Coal Gasification (000968), Zhejiang Tianma Bearing (002122), Yonghui Superstores Co (601933): 2Q results expected.
